Can I still go on a work placement if I have a disability?

Yes! You have the right to the same job opportunities as anyone else. The important thing is that your individual needs are taken into account. This means that your work placement must be at a place that is accessible for you and doing things that you can manage. You must understand that sometimes health and safety rules and risk assessments may mean that some work placements are not suitable for you.

The person who arranges your placement should be experienced and fully aware of your needs. The employer’s risk assessment should take your individual needs into account too. You should have proper support during the placement.

You need to be treated fairly. This means that the employer may need to make any reasonable adjustments in the workplace which will allow you to take up your placement.
