FORMER LORD ADVOCATE HELPS LEADING CHILDREN'S CHARITY TO "GROW UP"
Dame Elish Angiolini Q.C. has joined leading family law specialist Janys Scott Q.C. and Children's Hearings expert Sheriff Brian Kearney as patron of the Scottish Child Law Centre in time to help the Centre celebrate its 21 birthday. Dame Elish said:
The Scottish Child Law Centre provides critical guidance for individual children and their carers, training for practitioners and general support for children through information on their rights and duties as children. I am honoured to lend my support to such an important charity."
In 2012 the Centre celebrates 21 years of service to the children of Scotland and has chosen the theme "Coming of Age" The Centre has events planned to take place throughout 2012 which will explore the rights of young people going through difficult transitions such as: child to adult mental health and chronic health services, child to adult criminal law, leaving care and moving to independence for children with disabilities.
The Scottish Child Law Centre is the only law centre dedicated to helping children and young people across Scotland. The Centre advice line answers over 3,600 calls every year from children, families and professionals needing guidance on the law as it affects the under 18's.
